Writing for my supper
My working life has taken turns through PR, video production, radio and even selling really big bras (this was probably my favourite!) The constant through these jobs has been writing. I have always loved words. We take them for granted but words have shaped our lives and the right ones can be transformative for businesses and people.
I love understanding someone’s story and then finding ways to tell that story so that it can help other people. Besides writing about products and services I’ve written information to help communities find help during the hardest times, I’ve written hundreds of pieces on body image and bra fit and I’ve written about extraordinary people doing amazing things in science and technology. Writing has kept the lights on and food on my table so I’m very grateful that people trust me with their words.
Writing for myself
In 2020 I started writing a blog about the food I made at home to feed a young family. I was still battling the mental and physical trials of post-natal depression and writing helped me feel a sense of purpose. I wrote One Tough Cooker for four years before applying to go on MasterChef. It was the gradual rebuilding of my confidence through cooking and writing that gave me the courage to go on such a big culinary adventure.
Today the blog has moved to this website and I’m still writing about dishes I make at home and about my admiration of the family cook. I try to write the words I would have found helpful when life was hard in the hope that somebody experiencing the same challenges feels seen and supported.
